Soap Pond Lands

Updated Feb 2025

The Soap Pond Lands (45.181852, -78.635119) are in the southwestern bay of Kennisis Lake. The bay is also known Lipsy Bay.  The lands consist of a narrow strip of shorelands around the bay which is approximately 11 acres. The Soap Pond Lands are accessible through a narrow channel from Kennisis lake or from Westshore Road.  The KLCOA owns and manages the Soap Pond Lands, and the lands are open to the public for their use.  The Soap Pond Lands have several good picnicking spots and the portage route to Lipsy Lake is at the west end of the bay.

History

The Soap Pond Lands, were acquired by the KLCOA in 2022 from the municipality of Dysart et al.  When the west shore of Kennisis Lake was developed, the Soap Pond Lands were retained by Dysart and zoned as “Open Space” with the intention that they were not to be developed due to the service that the lands provide from an environmental and recreational perspective.

Management

The KLCOA Lands Committee manages the islands on behalf of the Kennisis Lake Cottage Owners’ Association (KLCOA).

The committee consists of representatives from the KLCOA membership.

Land Use Principles

All KLCOA lands are open to the public for their responsible enjoyment. For each of the KLCOA owned properties, land use principles have been developed for the responsible use of these lands.  The Land Use Principles were developed through community public consultation and approved by the KLCOA Board of Directors.  Where appropriate, signage has been installed to communicate these land use guidelines.
