The KLCOA has a long standing tradition of offering Red Cross swimming lessons on the Lake. We are currently faced with 3 obstacles for the summer of 2022.
1. Canadian Red Cross is winding down it’s swim programs to
focus on humanitarian aid
– all swim instructors and programs must transition over to the
Lifesaving Society
2. Our insurance company will not cover our swim instructors
unless they are an employee of the KLCOA
– the instructor cannot be contracted as an independent like they
have been in the past
– the KLCOA is not set up to handle a payroll with employees
3. The KLCOA has not been able to secure interest from any swim
instructors on the Lake
Conclusion: We are not in a position to offer swimming lessons for the 2022 season.
– we will endeavor to assist any instructors who need help
transitioning over
– we will create a list of qualified instructors who are offering
private lessons and post to members
– we will continue to research options to see if we can make some
kind of program work for 2023
