Chinese Mystery Snails – what you need to know and how to report
- They are an invasive species that is spreading through Haliburton County Lakes
- They are harmful to our lakes and have a number of negative effects
a. Taking food away from our fish
b. May lead to increased algal blooms
c. Affect recreation such as swimming - They reproduce rapidly – one female can produce 27-33 young per year
- Typical distribution is 16 per 1 square metre
- Highest distribution is soft, mucky or silty soil
