Soap Pond Lands – Land Use Principles WorkshopVirtual Meeting – Wednesday September 28, 2022 – 7:00-8:00pm

During 2021 and 2022, the KLCOA completed the ownership transfer of the Soap Pond Lands from the Municipality of Dysart et al to the KLCOA.  The lands are located in the South West basin of the lake and are well known to most cottagers. The land transfer includes a covenant on the deed which directs that the islands are retained in their natural state and cannot be developed. The lands can be located on Google Maps by pasting the GPS coordinates in search: 45.181709, -78.635739.

One of the ongoing KLCOA Stewardship Initiatives is to establish land use principles for KLCOA land holdings.  General land use principles were developed for the Lake Plan as well as specific land use guidance for Norah’s Island, Two Loon Island and the Blueberry Islands in previous workshops and community consultations.

The meeting will cover an overview of the Soap Pond Lands, some existing use requirements (i.e.- public use) and through discussions during the meeting develop Land Use Principles for the lands.  Additional information and examples of KLCOA Land Use Principles will be provided to participants in advance of the meeting.
