The suspected algae bloom that was located in the north-west basin of Kennisis Lake on the shoreline near Eastview Road was identified on September 13, dispersed and then reappeared the following day.
A report was submitted to the Ontario Ministry of the Environment, Conservation and Parks (MECP) to the Spills Action Centre. MECP staff did attend the location on Monday September 16 to collect a sample for analysis, but the suspected bloom had dispersed. Fortunately, the property owner had collected two samples at the time of the bloom, and they were provided to MECP to be submitted for analysis. When the report is available from the MECP it will be shared with the community via the KLCOA eblast.
When a suspected blue -green algae event has been identified, the MECP recommends that if you are in the affected area of the lake, you survey your shoreline for evidence of blue-green algae. If you see anything near your property that resembles blue-green algae you should follow the guidelines as laid out in the following two documents.
