Effective immediately there is a Complete Fire Ban for all of Haliburton County
This means fires of any type – open fires, camp fires and fireworks (any related permits which had previously been issued have been cancelled) – are absolutely prohibited at any time of day. According to Dysart Fire Chief Mike Iles the ban includes, “basically anything that has an open flame and cannot be turned off by a switch or valve.” So no wood fired pizza ovens, charcoal BBQs, or chimineas. The disposal of any embers or ashes is a concern.
Please be safe – not sorry – and protect our forests, wildlife and property.
Fines for those who choose to ignore the ban are substantial – up to $50,000. The ban will remain in place until the fire chiefs specifically declare it has been removed.
