Fireworks Update – Planned July 31, Rain Date August 1

Saturday July 31 – Rain Date Sunday August 1

More details to come next week!

The Show is a GO!

Thank you for everyone’s patience as we worked through the many interwoven pieces involved in putting on a successful KLCOA fireworks event.  The planned date is Saturday, July 31 which was moved from July 1 during planning decisions when full COVID restrictions were in force.

The KLCOA has the following in place:

  • The fireworks can be launched from the same location near the marina.
  • The Dysart Fire Chief has committed to issuing a permit on condition that all of the fireworks licencing requirements are met, that the event will be cancelled if there is a fire ban in place and that we must follow all of the COVID requirements at the time of the event including managing group size if that is required.
  • We have a commitment from the insurance company that they will issue us the event insurance once we know we are going ahead.  Once booked, this insurance is non-refundable if we do not hold the event.
  • The KLCOA fireworks budget for 2021 was $4100 including insurance.  The overall KLCOA budget was determined in November of 2020 and the KLCOA is in a deficit position for 2021 due to commitments to giving our members a choice of taking a COVID discount on their membership.  This year’s deficit uses up more than the surplus from last year.  Therefore, any money left from 2020 programs that were cancelled is no longer available.
  • The KLCOA board has recently understood that the cost of fireworks has increased considerably due to costs and lack of supply related to COVID.  As a result, the board recently voted and approved an increase in the fireworks budget to $4100 for fireworks including tax and shipping.  Insurance has been removed from that number and will be covered elsewhere in the budgetThe $4100 is for fireworks only (including tax and shipping). This is an increase of $1600 from the 2018/19 fireworks budget.
  • We now have a commitment from the launch team that this budget will work without the additional funding. Thank you to Steve and his team for their efforts.
  • It must also be noted that there are additional risks involved in running the show on any year, but in particular this COVID year, that would put a portion of these funds at risk i.e. Ongoing Inclement weather, a fire ban, phase 3 COVID restrictions, meeting all licence requirements.

The KLCOA is committed to coming up with a better funding model for the 2022 fireworks We have committed to look at our whole funding model for fireworks in Fall 2021and will have a plan in place for a successful, celebratory event next summer.

ON WITH THE SHOW!!!
